Welcome to Viv's easy recipe site

I am a working mother of two wonderful and young children - a two year old and a one year old. My husband and I love cooking and baking, in fact I have been cooking and baking for over 25 years. My hubby loves to bake, although he makes fantastic schnitzel. And although we are quite health conscious, we are not fanatics and love our chocolate cake just as the next guy.

However, while the economic crisis did not halt at our home we have found ourselves at times with severe budget restrains. Nevertheless, giving up taste, quality and variety was never an option for us when it comes to what we subject our bodies to - and it shouldn't be for you!!! I just had to learn to be even more creative.

And this is what my blog is all about: tasty, healthy, quick to prepare recipes that don't put a big hole in your pocket that leave you with time to spend on other things. You will also find tips and tricks about frugality, healthy living etc. Also, the tips here are adaptable wherever you live. Most web pages are very much tailored for the US population, I give it a more international perspective (or try to anyhow).

Just a few notes in advance:
All recipes have been tested. You won't find recipes that are just a copy and paste job. If I found a recipe and want to try it out, I note it in the recipe and then give a comment about how it went and how I would tweak it.

I don't live in a coupon crazy country. I don't know anyone who shops aggressively with coupons - anyway there are only few available here. There are many good sites that cover this material - I don't and I won't

I will also not talk about shopping around for the best price. Where I live the prices are more or less the same in all the shops. And honestly, I also don't have time to go shopping in 10 different places. I do my weekly shopping in one place and once every 6 weeks or so I go to a health store that has very good prices on stuff like beans, lentils, rice etc. However, if you have the time to go to more then one place for your weekly shopping - by all means do it. Just take into account that your time is also worth something and the car doesn't run for free. I will also not talk about the benefits of price books, as I don't see it (again my time is also worth something).

And one last thing. I live according to the kosher guide rules, meaning I don't mix meat and dairy products. I also don't eat pork, fruite de mare or any such thing. However, I do realize that most people don't follow this lifestyle, so I will, on occasion point out how to change a recipe.

Ok, enough time waffling about. Let's start cooking!!!
